Dance in all its forms, including the most spontaneous ones, is the oldest and most direct method to access and direct all types of energies that inhabit the psyche, the unconscious and the spirit of an individual or a whole group of people. The gesture is therefore a symbol that communicates on frequencies other than verbal ones. The DANCE phenomenon is a sort of "heir" of all the experiences of the body, a kind of container of all the movements that the human being has made since the beginning of creation; but above all it is the only way that the human being of rational Western society has to give voice to the IRRATIONAL part. Dance therefore represents much more than a simple physical activity and touches a much wider audience than the "professionals of the trade".
Thanks to dance (and here I am referring in the very broadest sense including urban rituals), many people who would be frustrated, sick and probably repressed HURT. By giving voice to the irrational part, the most disparate parts of the personality integrate: this is the curative effect. The choice to suppress the possibility of dancing even in extremely small groups worries me not so much for the pockets of the professionals as for the collective illness. Western man stopped doing rituals and started having compulsive obsessions. Inhibiting the expression of the irrational part through dance through sex and a few other rare activities in our Western society will lead even more to a sick community. This worries me.
